The University of Georgia Women’s Ice Hockey Club was founded by Hannah Knight in 2021, and the team played its first game against the Auburn Women’s Hockey Club on October 14th, 2022.
From having to use a storage closet as a locker room, to inadequate funding, to discouraging coaches and teammates, Hannah had experienced it all from playing on co-ed teams. After seeing the discrepancies between women’s and men’s hockey, particularly in the Southeast, Hannah knew there needed to be changes.
After a lot of stress, budgeting, paperwork, and coordinating, as well as help from countless other individuals, the University of Georgia Women’s Hockey Club became a reality.

The University of Georgia attracts students from not just the United States, but internationally as well. The team strives to grow the sport of hockey in the southeastern United States by providing young women the opportunity to play hockey at the collegiate level. The dream, however, is beyond playing the game. UGA Women’s Hockey Club hopes to create an encouraging and uplifting, yet competitive, environment that allows young women to realize their full potential.
We are looking to join the College Hockey South Women’s Division conference for the 2023-2024 season to provide the opportunity to players to enter a competitive environment and to grow the sport of women’s ice hockey in the southeast.
